Default hammer?!

so today i suddently wanted to try hammers out..bought all skills and capped all elites, tried online builds, made some on my own...but damn, axes still deal more dmg, the lack of a shield make a HUGE difference, not to mention the slowmotion attack speed...seriously, whats good abt them? if i want to chase runners, just use cripple (avaliable for axes and swords) and kill them..
also what armor set could work? i got a kurzick sentinels and ascalon...(wanted to play with the ascalon but no stonefist gauntlets avaliable and i dont like to mix armors *sigh* was thinking abt getting luxon 15k glad mod?...yes...i hate prophecies glads armor...dont want my titties showing... lol)

Hammers deal more normal base damage than axes or swords.

Hammers also can do knockdowns, which neither axes nor swords do.

Hammers also can cause weakness, which is good since you lack a shield.

To quicken hammer's attack, use Fury, or Tiger Fury, or some other increased attack speed skill.

yah, base dmg is nice..
KD is nice too..
weakness cant make up for +16AR against all, absorb and +HP =/ plus needs to use a skill for that
frenzy or tiger fury..its nice on hammers, but just as good on axes/swords =/

so far what worked very well for me is backbreaker, 4 secs down is just sweet, still exploring combo skills (90% of the online builds SUCK >_<)

abt the armor, any advices?

I'm not good with advise about armor, weapons, off-hand items, shields, etc.

However, Stonefist gloves are a definite plus for hammers.

In truth, faster attack skills are better with axes and swords.

Depending on your secondary profession, skills/spells that affect opponents who are knocked down are good combos.

While weakness doesn't really makeup for the lack of shield, it certainly doesn't hurt.

Besides, knockdowns, creating blindness when opponents are knocked down, will help you better than a shield. How? If your foe cannot attack, then they can't hit you. Which means that 0 damage is coming your way. Unfortunately, you don't get to knockdown foes often enough.

I'm guessing you are using For Great Justice to increase your adrenaline. Have you tried Battle Rage? Its an Elite from the Strength attribute. It works great, but since its an elite, you lose Backbreaker.

KD a foe and make him unable to react for 1...3 seconds is certainly the strengh of hammers.

^hammers need their elites. i've been running FGJ/tiger's stance/devastating hammer/crushing blow/(attack giving +8nrj if hitting weakened foe) worked pretty well in FoW
ho and with fierce blow, you'll see that weakness hurts

The choice of Armour depends on what you are using the hammer for. Is it PvP or Pve?

you can use:

*Sentinels Armor = 100AL *req 13 strength*
or carry "Watch Yourself" --- you and party members around you gain +20 armor... or spare some skill slots and carry stances instead

Knockdown is something you should use with your teammates skills

Holy Strike - Monk
Falling Spider - Assassin
Aftershock - Ele

Hammer is handy in PvP.
I like "Irresistible Blow" in the hammer skill set.

It is very useful when you face some people who 'block' your attacks.

Really, it is quite common. Skills such as monk's Guardian, and ranger's Whirling Defense are there to annoy warriors. But you can Irresistible Blow to knock them down, and use the combo mentioned in previous post to do a lot of damage.

Now the Holy Strike skill has its duplicate Stonesoul Strike. Both cost 5 energy and can be used with knockdown skills to do damage.

Hmm, in PVE, I guess axe is better than hammer. You got your shield with an axe, and you have more skills to attack multiple foes. It seems Yeti Smash isn't really good.

hmm i had some really good experiences with backbreaker, specially againt monks and MMs (no taste of death/healing for 4 secs!) so yah im learning to apreciate it, i found that putting all in hammer and tactics worked a ot better than strenght to me, use "for great justice" charge in with defensive stance while combo recharges then smash the caster

as for armor i had stonefist gauntlets when i 1st posted, sentinels and ascalon, just got luxon 15k glad mod, testing how it works with some heavy energy combos

still with the loss of non physical absorb the 16 armor from shields make a huge difference when im fighting any casters =/

idk, im getting the handle of it, its definitivelly not an inferior weapon, but not a real spiker either, just a really different kind of weapon

Hammers are excellent spikers, better then axe tbh due to the KD and the fact that they deal more damage... alll at once. They also have a higher dps, which is somewhat mitigated in sword/axes favor vs high armor targets, but Hammers STILL do the best damage.

Ive personally hit over 150 with a hammer vs 60AL many times... its quite fun.

I just deleted my warrior, but he was a Hammer machine.

I found that I really needed the extra energy of full Glads so I went ahead and showed my nurples off to the world. Looks suck, but it made me much more effective IMO.

I fun skill to play with is Dwarven Battle Stance...if you use lots of strength. It is fun to interrupt ppl (especially in RA/TA where people don't usually expect it). Unfortunately you lose Backbreaker which is pretty dang powerful.

Stuff like Mighty and Irresistable are good with a hammer because the starting dmg is higher.

Seriously though, the online builds usulaly suck. You are better off making up your own (oh yeah, in case you didn't notice Stonefist Guantlets don't add anything to backbreaker, at least I am pretty sure they don't).

You guys obiously missed the KDAS hammer build so i'll give it to you

Berserker Stance, Back Breaker, Crushing Blow, After Shock, Irresistible Blow,

Use Beserker to build up adren. Then fire off Back Breaker which kd them, then crushing bow to put on deep wound, then After Shock which will cause over 100 dmg and if they are still alive then finish them off with Irresistible Blow. The rest of the skill slot can be for rez, other stances/shout, or dmg attacks.

This build work best if you run the Glad armor because of the +7 energy. I am still tweaking this build to make it more energy efficient. Stonefist gaunlet will help here. Have fun.

Although energy always helps (I have always worn Glads on my axe warrior), hammer warriors can also wear Sentinels armor for the added armor or even dreadnought/platemail.
Dolyak's Signet is always helpful too.
